July 2008 Ministry Update

Strengthening the Tagbilaran Church's Teaching Ministry
...teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you...Matthew 28:19-20
Since June is the opening of classes here in the Philippines, the church is also girded to build up her teaching ministry after teachers had been trained last April. This is in line with our objective to develop a church that is deeply rooted in the God’s Word. Tagbilaran City church has created four classes for different age groups namely: adults, college level and young professionals, high school, and children 1 and 2. Praise God for seven committed teachers. In most churches, Sunday School has been phased out in favor of cell group classes. In our case, Sunday School is still an effective and productive discipleship arm of the church. Our only problem is lack of suitable and conducive classrooms. The adults hold classes on our dining table, the college and young professionals met under the talisay tree, the high schoolers hold classes inside the multicab, and the children met on the small porch. When typhoon Frank visited us, Sunday School classes were suspended because our classrooms were all wet. We always pray that the rain will go away on Sundays. We need a spacious meeting place indeed. We are targeting 70 to enroll in Sunday School until July 13 this month.

Reports from Nan-od Sierra Bullones:
Pastor Aaron Beltran reports that 25 people accepted Christ through personal witnessing and at the same time distribution of 2 kilos of rice. The rice came from a partner ministry called Int’l Care Ministries, Philippines. This ministry feeds the rice while the church feeds the Word. Out of the 25 persons who professed faith in Christ, 6 of them wanted a home Bible study. Nan-od Church will soon be celebrating their first church anniversary this coming August 19 this year. Please pray for the pastor’s wisdom in leading God’s flock and that Christians will grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, that there will be complete turn around from pagan practices.
| This is part of the Lila pre-school class started by Pastor Junie and Joy Eclay. The classroom is far from equipped. They need reference books, toys, and classroom renovation. Thank God that 21 children had enrolled. This is one reason why we raised funds for buildings. |
From Lila Ministry
Pastor Junie and Joy Eclay are very enthusiastic in planting a church in Poblacion, Lila, Bohol - the reason why they transferred last May from Barangay Bongkocan, in order to have a strategic place. They wish to establish rapport to the people there, so they started a pre-school class with 21 children in an old dilapidated building last June. They started to sow the gospel seeds in little children and neighbors. Through their prayers, a concerned neighbor donated 5 sheets of galvanized iron to patch the leaking roof. Not only the classroom is leaking but all over the place, the reason that the house is not livable. There is no electricity connection, as well. They also used the kinder room for church meetings. Despite these inconveniences, the parents are impressed that their children learn to pray and recite Bible verses. Please pray that the house can have a full renovation and that learning equipments be acquired.

Seven workers met together for fellowship, orientation, and planning for Bohol church planting project at Pastor Gamie’s home last June 30, 2008. Plans on how to acquire a descent, strategic and suitable property or building were discussed in the meeting since all of the three pioneering churches do not have property of our own wherein we can have the liberty to put up structures suitable to our church programs. Finally, the body decided to challenge every church member in our fellowship to give one peso per month as initial funds for church building. This is only a subsidy or counterpart for those churches, who wish to buy, renovate or build a church building. Among the seven workers, we have raised ninety pesos during that meeting. That would be promoted to Sunday School Classes and church members also.
